Colorado Beta Chapter History

The Colorado Beta chapter of Tau Beta Pi was initiated on June 8, 1905. Colorado Beta was the thirteenth chartered chapter of Tau Beta Pi. As of May 4, 2005, we have initiated 4392 members. On January 1, 1974, the Iota chapter of Sigma Tau merged with the Colorado Beta chapter as part of a national merger of the two societies. Colorado Beta is the largest chapter in the District 12 region and one of the larger chapters in the country. The 46th national convention was hosted in part by the Colorado Beta chapter in 1951 in the Boulder-Denver area.

Our chapter received the honor of Most Improved Chapter in 1972-73 and Honorable Mention for Outstanding Chapter in that same year. We received the Boots and Buckle award for Most Improved Chapter in 1999. In recent years, the Colorado Beta chapter has been involved in a number of community service projects including tutoring of the local high schools, has submitted an entry in the Boulder Kinetics race, and has sponsored a number of activities including ski trips, ice cream socials and picnics. Our chapter has embraced the motto "We Serve Because We Can." Every fall and spring, our initiates are required to perform a community service activity in keeping with this tradition.
